This notice applies to the public chat service provided by Midvault, based on the open Matrix protocol and accessible via clients such as Element.
By using this service, you agree to comply with applicable laws and the terms outlined below.

🛡️ Privacy and Data Protection
Midvault complies with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and is committed to protecting your privacy.

End-to-End Encryption
All private and group chats are end-to-end encrypted by default.
This means:
Only the participating users’ devices can read messages.

Midvault cannot access or decrypt message contents under the assumption that you chose to encrypt your messages and rooms..

Data Retention and Deletion
Metadata such as IP addresses and login times may be retained longer in security systems used by Midvault are deleted on a rolling schedule.

Message content cannot be accessed or removed by Midvault once delivered, as it is encrypted and stored across devices and federated servers.
If you delete your account, your user ID is removed and local data is purged, but previously sent messages remain in rooms unless manually deleted by you (if supported).

Note on Nextcloud
Midvault also runs a Nextcloud-based “try-it-out” server intended for testing and demonstrations.
This instance is not part of the public service offering, and any data entered into it may be deleted or reset at any time. For production use, users are expected to self-host or obtain their own Nextcloud instance.

Acceptable Use
You agree to use the platform responsibly.

The following are strictly prohibited:
Unauthorized access to other users’ data or accounts
Sharing of illegal, harmful, or abusive content
Disruption of service functionality or security
Violations may lead to suspension, account deletion, or legal action.

⚠️ No Emergency Services
This platform is not intended for emergency communication.
In case of emergency, contact your local emergency services (e.g., 112 in Sweden).

Governing Law
This service is provided under the jurisdiction of Sweden, and all legal matters shall be resolved in accordance with Swedish law.
